Appointment Instructions for all tests:

  • Arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment time for registration.
  • Bring your insurance card and identification with you.
  • Bring a current list of your medications and dosages. Consult your ordering physician whether or not you should take your medications prior to your stress test.
  • You may drink small amounts of water for all testing.
  • Wear two-piece clothing and be prepared to change into a gown for testing. If scheduled for a stress test, be sure to wear gym attire and athletic shoes.
  • If you are unable to keep your appointment, please kindly provide 24-hour notification by calling our scheduling department at (512) 341-6414 to reschedule or cancel.
  • Suggestion: bring a jacket and a book to keep you comfortable in the waiting area.
  • For fasting patients (see below): If you are Diabetic, remember to take 1/2 of your diabetic medication and/or insulin at bedtime the night before your test. Do not take these the morning of your test. Bring your diabetic medication with you.
  • If you provided an email address, you will receive an appointment confirmation containing additional information about your exam.

Resting Echocardiogram

As a non-invasive study, ultrasound uses sound waves to make a picture of your heart in motion, providing images of the valves and chambers of the heart. Allow 1 hour for your study.
No restrictions for an Echo.
Echocardiogram with Bubble Study
CPT: 93306
A bubble study rules out a congenital heart defect. An IV (by insertion of a needle) is used during your study. Allow 2 hour for your study.
No restrictions for an Echo-Bubble.
Echo/Stress Echo with Contrast
CPT: 93306, Stress Echo 93351
A contrast agent is used to improve the quality of ultrasound of your heart. This agent is added to an IV (by insertion of a needle). Allow 2 hour for your study.
No restrictions for an Echo-Contrast.
Stress Echocardiogram
CPT: 93351
A non-invasive exercise test which involves ultrasound pictures of your heart at rest and after exercise. You will walk on a treadmill during part of the study. Allow 1 hour for your study.
Do not eat or drink 6 hours before your study, including no caffeine. This includes decaf coffee, tea and chocolate.
Carotid Duplex
CPT: 93880
An ultrasound of the arteries in your neck to check for any blockages. Allow 1 hour for your study.
No special restrictions for this study.
Venous Doppler Study

An ultrasound to look for blockages or narrowing in the veins of your arms/legs. Allow 1 hour for your study.

Venous Insufficiency
CPT: 93970 & 93965
An ultrasound to examine blood circulation, blockages and direction of flow, in the veins of the legs. Allow 1.5 hours for your study.
Don't wear compression stockings the day of test.
Drink plenty of water the day of your test.
Arterial Duplex w/ABI

An ultrasound test to study the blood flow through the arteries of your legs using imaging and pressures. >Allow 1 hour for your study.

Ankle Brachial Index

An ultrasound test to study the blood flow through the arteries of your legs using only pressures. Allow 45 minutes for your study.

Groin Ultrasound

A non-invasive ultrasound to rule out arterial or venous abnormalities within the vessels of upper thigh and lower abdominal area. Allow 30 minutes for your study.

Renal Artery Duplex

An ultrasound study to look for blockage or narrowing in your renal arteries, supplying blood to the kidneys. Allow 1 hour for your study.

Abdominal Aorta Duplex

An ultrasound test to evaluate blood flow and to look for an aneurysm (abnormal widening or ballooning) of a portion in the abdominal aorta. Allow 1 hour for your study.

Standard Treadmill Stress Test (TMT)

An exercise test where you will walk on a treadmill while the treadmill gradually increases in speed and incline. Allow 1 hour for your study.

Stress Myocardial Perfussion Image (MPI) (Treadmill or Chemical)

A stress test accompanied by an IV (by insertion of a needle) of a nuclear imaging agent which allows a camera to visualize the blood supply to the heart muscle and observe the heart function before and after the stress test. Stress may be in the form of exercise on a treadmill or administering a medication to simulation exercise. Allow at least 4 hours for your study.
You may not have caffeine for 12 hours prior to your study. This includes decaf coffee, tea and chocolate.
Do not eat or drink for 6 hours before your study.
Staff will instruct you when you may have a snack and take medications if you wish to bring them.
PET
CPT: 78492 & 93017, CPT: Rubidium A9555, Lexiscan: J2785
A stress test accompanied by an IV (by insertion of a needle) of a nuclear imaging agent which allows a camera to visualize the blood supply to the heart muscle and observe the heart function before and after the stress test. You will be given a medication that simulates exercise; you will not walk on a treadmill. Allow 1 hour for your study.
You may not have caffeine for 12 hours prior to your study. This includes decaf coffee, tea and chocolate.

MUGA

You are given an imaging agent via IV to allow the camera to visualize your blood flow as it moves through the four chambers of your heart. Allow 2 hours for your study.
