About Joan Hughart, APRN, FNP-BC
Joan Hughart received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Incarnate Word College in San Antonio, Texas. She also attended Texas Women’s University in Houston, Texas and went on to receive her Masters of Science in Nursing with a specialty in Med-Surg/CNS Role. She completed UTMB’s Graduate School of Biomedical Science Nurse Practitioner Program in Galveston, Texas. Ms. Hughart is a Board Certified family nurse practitioner and registered Nurse.
Ms. Hughart has extensive cardiology nursing experience (45 yrs), having held numerous roles as a nurse practitioner in both the clinic and hospital settings, as well as administrative and academic roles including teaching Nurse practitioner students. She was a captain in the United States Air Force, where she served as a clinical nurse specialist for the departments of cardiology, vascular and cardiothoracic surgery.
Through the years, Ms. Hughart has co-authored clinical cardiology papers, patient materials, and delivered oral presentations. She was recognized by AACN as “Outstanding Clinical Nurse Specialist for Medical-Surgical Nursing” and also received the high honor of a Meritorious Service Medal from United States Air Force for “Outstanding Service to Country”.
She maintains active membership with the Heart Failure Society of America, American Association of Nurse Practitioners and Preventative Cardiovascular Nursing Association.
In her free time, Ms. Hughart enjoys gardening, camping, and being outdoors with her husband Keith and their dog Chance. Her daughter Suh was adopted from Seoul Korea and is now a Paramedic involved in educating of health care professionals on Human Trafficking in Central Texas.
